The Best Spark Plug for a 2023 KTM 300XC TBI
The spark plug found in the 2023 KTM 300xc TBI is now an 8 heat range plug. Previous KTM 300 models have come with a 7 heat range spark plug. Which should you use? Is it worth it to upgrade your spark plug?
The OEM spark plug is a generic plug similar to that found in a weedeater. It requires a lot of voltage and has a fairly short service life.
Based on experience and testing, Jeff recommends upgrading to the BR7EIX NGK Iridium Spark Plug (7 heat range). The lower the heat range number, the hotter the plug will be.
The higher quality NGK plug has a longer service life and will help the bike run cleaner, especially at idle. KTM TBI models have a lower output stator, and the NGK Iridium plug does not require as much voltage to create the same spark.
This won’t show a major difference on the dyno, but when running the OEM mapping that is rich at idle, or with a high compression head, the bike will run cleaner, the plug will last longer, and you will spend more time on the trail and less time changing spark plugs.
