A legend has passed Malcolm Smith (1941 – 2024), the world’s most-renowned and best-loved motorcyclist, has died from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He was 83. He passed away at home in Riverside, California on November 26th with his family. Malcolm helped, more than anyone, to put dirt bikes on the map. His star role in “On Any Sunday” started the ball rolling but it was his infectious grin, warm and welcoming personality and his desire to ride that won over everyone who met him. He was one of the first true ambassadors of our sport. I met Malcolm in the late 80s and soon thereafter my company (not Slavens Racing) started developing, designing and manufacturing a product for his then company, MSR. We got to know each other and rode together many times over the last 40 years. We were not close friends, but we were good friends. Malcolm has a home in Colorado and occasionally I would stop by for a chat about our favorite trails or a recently discovered trail. Malcolm lit up like a kid at Christmas every time he discovered a good trail or made a new one. He was a legendary bushwacker. Everyone that knows Malcolm has a Malcolm story, and of course I have a few, but one in particular makes me laugh. He was legendary for many reasons and one was his thriftiness. He was well known as a tight ass. He was always looking for a freebie and squeezed a buck to get out every last penny. Continued ⬇️

Slavens Mule MX-Tech Lucky Customer Review: "After taking a beating a month or so ago from the front suspension, I ponied up for the Slavens Lucky MX Tech inserts for my WP Xplor forks, specifically valved for the 690/701 platform along with springs for the weight. If you aren’t familiar, with the MX Tech inserts, you get adjustable preload as well as compression and rebound on each fork leg as well as MX Tech’s anti bottoming valve in the bottom of the forks (their “huck” valve). To preface, I was running factory springs in the front with no preload adjustments from factory. I was also running compression very stiff on the street to counteract the head shake I’d get from aggressive roll offs. Offroad, I’d back compression off about 4 clicks to make it rideable. Swapping the internals is super simple. The forks ship with quite a few spacers to adequately set preload. The fork spec sheet from MX Tech wants to run 5-8mm of preload and I’m running 6.5 right now. Everything else on the clickers is as recommended by MX Tech/Slavens. I immediately took it out on the road and to my surprise, I had ZERO headshake at the base setting when doing aggressive roll offs and could slightly feel some when I would try to get it to do it. That when I upped preload from 5mm to 6.5mm and took care of that issue. This past weekend I got it on the trail on fast 2-track (first was slow following my 10-year old). The front wheel felt extremely more planted and like it followed the terrain. Tree roots and rocks weren’t the hard hit they used to be. High speed in the decomposed granite, rocks and roots, the front was predictable and did exactly what I wanted. It also brought to light my rear is running too much compression now… I’m sure many have pieced and sorted these forks out with good results. I chose this route as I am NOT a suspension expert but I know when something isn’t right. Also I don’t have time to test and tune so the drop ins were a win." - Scott R.

Want to run race fuel or high ethanol fuel in your TPI or TBI without ruining your engine or needing a customised tune? Well now you can! Just fill the tank, select your fuel type on our ERM, flash your regular tune to the ECU and ride! It literally takes seconds and will automatically adjust the entire tune to suit your new fuel. This means you can run pump fuel one day and race fuel the next with minimal risk of engine damage. Our normal Basic and Pro tuning features still allow further fine tuning of fuel if needed. Check out the AFR curves at the bottom of the dyno screen when we run 98 pump fuel (stoich value of 14.7) back to back with E27.5 (stoich value of ~13)… AFRs are almost identical after ERM fuel type adjustments, yet if you ran this fuel without mapping changes it would almost certainly ruin your engine under load. ERM firmware v2.2 allows TBI fuel type adjustment and we will be releasing v2.2.1 next week which will add TPI fuel type adjustment 💪💪 @twostrokeperformance We have all your TSP parts right here at Slavens Racing 🤙
